South of the municipality of Isola, the tailings impoundments of the plant in Valabres are reached by the metal Bailey bridge, which crosses the Tinée river. The seriously defective condition of the structure required its use to be limited to the crossing of light vehicles only. For industrial reasons, EDF wished to reinforce the structure to enable worksite vehicles and machinery weighing up to 24 tonnes to cross the Tinée. The reinforcement of the Bailey bridge increased its loadbearing capacity, allowing greater access to the impoundments and enabling the intended use to be carried out.
